Our First Foster Dog: Reason

We are excited to introduce Reason, our very first foster dog.

Meet Reason

Say hello to Reason! He’s an eight-month-old Lab mix, currently looking for his forever home along with his brother, Rhyme. Both are available for adoption through Final Victory Rescue.

Bath Time

We welcomed Reason into our home less than a week ago. He was a little nervous at first, but that didn’t stop us from giving him a much-needed bath. He handled it like a champ and seemed pretty pleased to be fresh and clean before meeting his new friends at Stoney Horse Acres.

Dog Friendly and Kid Friendly

Reason gets along wonderfully with other dogs! He’s needed just a little guidance on good play manners but has been quick to learn and now plays respectfully in a pack setting.

He’s also been great with our 4-year-old daughter! While he does have a habit of jumping up when he’s excited, we’re working on curbing that behavior. With a little more practice, he’ll have it down before he joins his forever family.

Obedience Training Progress

In just four days of training, Reason has shown how smart and eager to learn he is. Here’s what he’s been working on so far:

Sit & Down: He’s got these commands down! He occasionally mixes them up at the start of a session—sometimes lying down when asked to sit and vice versa—but after a few minutes, he remembers and finishes strong.

Place: He’s excelling at this command! Next, we’ll challenge him by increasing the distance to his bed and extending his stay duration. He’s ready for it!

Look: He’s a natural! He picked this up quickly, and we’re now reinforcing the word-to-action connection. With another week of practice, his eye contact will be top-notch.

Heel: After just one training session, Reason showed great potential! If he continues like this, he’ll be a dream to walk on a leash in no time.

Food Manners: He’s learned to sit and make eye contact before eating. We’re still working on his patience when treats are being handed out to multiple dogs, but he’s improving every day.

Crate Training: This one was a challenge at first—he’d avoid going in when it was time for bed. Now, he willingly enters his crate, though he still takes a moment to think about it.

Door Manners: We haven’t started this yet—stay tuned for updates!

Potty Training: He’s doing well but still benefits from being crated or kept in small areas while he masters this skill. The good news? He doesn’t mark! 🎉

Help Him Find His Forever Home!

Reason is available for adoption through Final Victory Animal Rescue in Columbia, SC. He’s an incredible pup who deserves a loving home! If you or someone you know is looking for a loyal, affectionate companion, please share his story. ❤️
